CLA Seminar: 'Noting' the Child in Aotearoa

 Dr Kaye Cederman

This seminar welcomes anyone who is interested in finding out more child and adolescent psychoanalysis from a Lacanian perspective, it begins at looking at Lacan's very short text 'Note on the Child (1969) which it is argued, gets right to the heart of child psychoanalysis; the child's symptom is found to be in the position of answering what is symptomatic in the family structure, as Lacan "notes", the symptom represents the truth of 'the sexual couple'. The seminar then touches on a diverse range of child psychoanalysts, some contemporary, whose work is grounded in, what might be called, a 'lacanian' approach. It makes the point that clinical practice that includes Lacan's theories provides another option for those currently working with children and adolescents in Aotearoa.

Kaye is a Registered Practitioner member, Association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Ireland. Kaye works as a Psychoanalyst in private practice with children, adults and teenagers. Kaye is a member of the CLA and a prospective member of the New Zealand Institute of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.
